Hazardous Area Motors
Hazardous areas are defined as locations where explosive Gas-Air Mixture may occur in dangerous concentrations. IS:5572:2009 & IS:5571:2009 classify the hazardous areas into three zones depending on the frequency and duration for which dangerous concentrations are likely to be present. Classification of these zones and selection of electrical equipment is as under:
Zone | Classification of area as per Ref std. IS:5572:2009 | Selection of electrical equipment based on Ref std. IS:5571:2009 |
---|---|---|
Zone `0' | An area in which Hazardous atmosphere is continuously present | Generally, use of electrical equipment is to be avoided. But when this is not practicable, intrinsically safe or pressurized electrical equipment to be used. |
Zone `1' | Hazardous atmosphere is likely to be present under normal operating conditions. | For this area , electrical equipment used , must be in flame proof enclosure type Ex d conforming to IS/IEC 60079-1. |
Zone `2' | Hazardous atmosphere is likely to be present under abnormal operating conditions and for a short periods | Apparatus with type of protection Ex 'e' in accordance with IS/IEC 60079-7 may be used without any special enclosure. Apparatus having type of protection Ex `n' in accordance with IS/IEC 60079-15 are also permitted for use. |

Crane Duty and Brake Motors
BBL manufactures Squirrel Cage Crane and Hoist Duty Motors with Type 'MC'. These motors are generally one frame size smaller than normal. These motors are not limited to cranes and hoists, but can also be used in applications requiring frequent switching.
Standard 'MC' motors are designed for use for S3, S4 or S5 duty with various Cyclic Duration Factors (CDF). These motors can be offered in various types of mountings and are made with standard 'MA' components. i.e. body, end shields etc.
BBL manufactures TEFC crane duty three phase Slip ring motors with Type 'MP'. These motors are used for cranes requiring frequent start /stops and for speed control. Standard 'MP' motors are designed for use for S3, S4 or S5 duty with various cyclic duration factors. These motors can be offered in various types of mounting.
Performance chart for Slip Ring Motors:
BBL manufactures TEFC three phase DC Brake Motors with Type 'MB'. These motors are used for applications requiring positive and instantaneous braking. These motors are 'fail safe', which means that the brake will be applied immediately in case the power supply fails or is switched off.
These motors have a built in rectifier along with a varistor for protecting the rectifier as well as the brake coil from voltage surges. The special brake liner used assures consistent braking torque with minimum wear. This leads to almost maintenance free operation. These motors can be offered in various types of mounting. BBL manufactures these motors in frame sizes from 71 to 132M in 2, 4, 6 and 8 pole.
Multi speed brake motors can also be supplied. Motors from 90S to 132M can also be supplied with a manual release arrangement to manually release the brake.
